Professional Librarian with experience in academic, special and public libraries
|
Being the daughter of a Public Library Director, I grew up in libraries. By age 14 I was leading my own children's and young adult programs in the public library. I received my MLIS in December of 2001 from Clark Atlanta University. I have held the following positions since graduating: Librarian responsible for cataloging, reference and research for professional staff at the corporate libraries of Coca-Cola and Bell South; Instructor with the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET, now LYRASIS) and Assistant Librarian for Public Services at Georgia Highlands College. My current position is Project Coordinator for QandANJ.org, New Jersey's 24/7 statewide virtual reference service.I have also served on Clark Atlanta University's School of Library and Information Studies Committee for Accreditation. I am President of the NJLA IT Section, as well as Vice Chair of the ALA MARS Virtual Reference Discussion Group. I am also a member of the RUSA MARS/RSS Virtual Reference Committee, and the NJLA Reference Section. I have presented at regional and national conferences, and I am a 2008 graduate of the American Library Association's Emerging Leaders program. I am completing my studies in Archives Management through the Temple University Graduate History department. I expect to complete the coursework in December 2011. I have experience processing collections at the Temple University Urban Archives and at the Penn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology Archives. In addition to my archival studies, my current professional focus is on customer service to the Millenial library user, both virtually and face-to-face. I have investigated the thinking and learning methods of Screenagers and Gamers, as well as their reading and studying habits. My current work provides interesting interaction with this population. |
